The Platonian Soulmates

The pair was asleep with their backs glued to each other. Like the Platonian soulmates lying together in deep slumber, they were finally at peace. He had entangled one of her feet between his two to stay enmeshed while she looked to curl her other one into the mess. It was not coercive. They had both wanted to stay interlaced for as long as they could. It was going to be morning and they would be separated, not much different from the way Zeus had severed the soulmates to salvage the superiority of God.

There was no other thought in their mind at that time. They never found time to boast about their love, their togetherness, or the joy they shared. They knew they didn’t possess the capacity for hubris. The time together was just not enough to share the bliss as much as they had wanted. So certainly not enough to let a stranger nose in for any kind of exaltation or envy. They protected their unity the way he never allowed a speck of air between their naked bodies when they had held each other.

A while ago, they were asleep facing each other where she had dug her face into his chest, her lips caressing the cut mark on his chest from a previous surgery. Situated smack dab between the clavicle bones, on top of the sternum, her body always seemed to position itself in a way her lips came face to face with the scar effortlessly. It was that mark that assured her of a resting abode. Her head would conveniently snuggle beneath his chin and by extension, her body would curve to nestle itself within the extended contours of his body. Many had seen that mark but they didn’t know about its existence. While on the other hand that mark had held her into its spell. It kept her snuggly and warm. It was like a secret only she was privy to, only she knew about. She would try to fit her index finger into it, trying to prove it was the lock to the key of the mound on her finger.

Once the morning happened, their bodies would writhe before separation. They would cleave because the Gods of the world have exercised their power to not allow them to stay together, to get bundled into one, and be able to forget that the world existed outside of them. They wouldn’t be able to feel sated the way they were that night. So, every day and night they would be apart from now, the time would be spent hankering over that touch of the soulmate. Trying to find any knowledge of how the other is faring. Anything would help, phones, e-mails, or any third-party information. Each would feign an imagination of the other. Even at times, they would project their limbs outward to aim to recreate the pose from the earlier night where the counterpart had fit just right into the mesh.

Maybe a miracle outside, like Apollo's blessings, could help them reclaim a few more moments of nearness. But the dread of the morning and wish for more were not going to put a damper on tonight's bliss. It was enough and the couple tucked themselves cozily into each other’s limbs. No time for any other thought.

Trifecta : Rain that saved her ! - Episode 3

It was a Saturday, a normal day-off for everybody else that she had gone to the office with the dying hope of her project meeting its deadline, that they actually met. Both have been working in the same offices for quite some time, more like a couple of years, even sitting in the adjacent cubicles but they had barely interacted; except from the occasional hi’s and the good mornings’. There was always a reluctance, a sheer hesitation in his eyes even when they would rise in order to wish her the same. To everybody, he was just another workaholic who would move out of his cubicle, make a beeline to the pantry, take coffee, and make another beeline back to his place. So, that day, just for company’s sake over lunch, she asked Vishal to join her. And since then, everything had started falling out of place. She had expected it to be a sour company, a dull conversation if at-all. Out of courtesy, they offered each other, Vidya offering him her self-made  matar-paneer  an...

My life in the box

I live in a box. My world may seem strange to you. But, it’s not as bad as you think. It does have holes in it which lends me some fresh air from time-to-time. You may think I must be scared of the big-burly cat living on the outside but I am not. We are kind of best friends. I can listen to all the chatter from outside.  But now I can close my ears whenever I want to without anyone seeing. The holes, I must reveal now, ain’t my best friends either. They complicate things for me because I can’t feel the total darkness here because of them. Just when I am about to, rays of sun from these holes try to illuminate it down here for me as if I am some impotent chap, not capable of doing that on my own. They just don’t get it! So if they are not going to stop playing this naïve game, they are going to get a worthy opponent in me. And so in retrospect, I plastered few of them with black paper. But now, right this moment, I want to live out in the open again, enjoy the warmth...

Trifecta: Dream Dream, come again !

He had dreams. Many of them! Everytime he’d fail he’d spawn few more. But he had jotted them all down so when he achieves his first he could say, “Life was worth it!” ________________________________________________________________________ Link to Trifecta Homepage:  http://www.trifectawritingchallenge.com/ This is my submission for this weekend’s  Trifextra challenge . We had to write exactly 33 of our own words inspired by the following quote from the book we could win in the WBN  giveaway. Good luck! “It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”  ―  Paulo Coelho ,  Alchemist
